We Imagine the world
The Choice Is Yours.
Business as Usual = Burning Fossil Fuels = Global Warming
and Climate Crisis = Ecological Collapse = Extinction
– or –
Industrial Hemp and Carbon Farming = Life
Life in the soil, healthy fire proof Carbon Negative Buildings and biocomposite Industrial Goods.
Food and fuel for humans too.
CleanEnergyColorado is an educational outreach of Citizens For Clean Energy, Inc, 501(c)3. Citizens for Clean Energy imagines a future with Clean Air, Clean Water, Clean Food powered by Clean Energy. Anthropogenic climate change and ecological collapse leading to extinction is not inevitable but for us to put on the brakes, we need more than more renewables and zero new fossil fuel projects, we need to stop burning fossil fuels as soon as 2025, and stop fracking for more gas and oil that we can not afford to burn. We have to manage refrigerants now and we need to stop releasing methane and nitrous oxide. Increasingly science and our own observations over a modest life are indicating that we have to stop destroying the only habitable planet we have ever known now before it’s too late, tipping points are crossed and we’ll be powerless to stop runaway heating, food system failures, and extinction.
Drawdown 101:
“We can build the future we want.
We have to choose.
The world that is or the world that could be.
We all want a better future.
We need to address climate change to have a future”
Hemp Lime Green House Project
Demonstration of Carbon Sequestration, Green Building, and Regenerative Farming with agriculturally grown and processed hemp building materials supporting climate goals, regenerative farming, and local farmers.
Hemp Sucks!
…Carbon out of the air 4.5 times faster than trees.
2.5 acres of hemp can suck about 25 tons of carbon out of the air in one season. This biomass is part grain, part exceptionally strong fiber, and part woody stem. Hemp tap roots add carbon to the soil and bring up minerals from the subsoil.
About half of the biomass from the 2.5 acres or 12.5 tons is the woody core which is enough to build the walls for a 1200 square foot, non toxic, fire and mold resistant, passive solar, carbon negative house. When used to build a house, this atmospheric carbon is locked away for 100 years. Other more carbon intensive materials are not used saving more carbon. Hemp requires no harmful chemicals, less water than conventional crops, crowds out weeds, and actually restores carbon in the soil.
What if we built houses with hemp, paid farmers for sequestering carbon, and stopped cutting down trees?
Regenerative Carbon Farming with hemp will make farmers heros in the fight to feed and shelter the world while reversing the climate and ecological crises. Hemp Sucks!
This project will educate stakeholders in industrial hemp/lime building technique by building an Chineese style hemp/lime greenhouse and storage building as part of an educational program with US Hemp Building Association and others. We will field trial Canadian and domestic industrial hemp varieties seeking a crop that can be utilized as a cover crop with no-till, no-chemical practices. Citizens for Clean Energy participated in the design and construction of the first engineered and permitted Hemp Lime Greenhouse in Colorado. Built in 2019 for the Manna Soup Kitchen, a not-for-profit that feeds the homeless in Durango, Colorado, this 20 x 40 greenhouse cost $45,000 in materials plus donated labor.
Citizens for Clean Energy
… is a Boulder Colorado based 501(c)3 founded in 1989. We stand up for clean air, clean water and clean food powered with clean energy.
We believe in economic, social, and climate justice for all. Donut Economics offers significant corrections to classical economic thinking and paths forward.
Corporations are not people and money is not speech. Patenting life forms is absurd.
Nature has the right to exist. Ecocide is a crime.
Pollution and toxics are not victimless costless externalities.
Remind me again how the Roman empire fell, how the Mercury got in the fish, how the lead in gas and and in the paint caused brain damage. How did the lead that got into Flint Michigan’s drinking water poison a whole generation. Why are there dead zones at the mouths of our great rivers where once we’re productive fisheries. Where have all the salmon gone?
How does the original sins of theft of property from indiginous people and theft of babies from their mothers in Africa to become property turn out in the end?
Extinction is the end of the line for the capitalist fascist authoritarian system with government as a wholly owned captive subsidiary.
We are for clean air and clean water. Water is life, what more can be said than that. We are for clean food as that is the energy that fuels our bodies.
Size matters. “Small is Beautiful.” Family farms and CSAs, yes. Larger farms transitioning to organic and regenerative practices, yes. International corporate conglomerates with toxic chemical soil depleting monocultures, who cut down rainforests owned by billionaires that don’t pay taxes, not so much.
Industrial chemical agriculture is war on Nature. NPK GMO’s, Neonic pesticides and toxics, monocrops, superweeds and the militaristic industrialization and persuit of yeild per acre over quality per acre must yeild to a more holistic nutrition per acre or health per acre or carbon sequestered per acre metric.
Loss of topsoil, loss of carbon and water holding organic material and lack of nutrition and loss of biodiversity does not a sustainable food system make. Cheerios fed to children should not be contaminated with herbicides known to affect gut bacteria. Babies should not be ingesting toxics, microplastics, forever chemcals and endocrine system disruptors. And the list goes on….As the population of humans has increased, so has the population of all other vertibrates declined precipitiously. Insect apocalypse, honey bee colony collapse and loss of other pollinators and increasingly erratic weather conditions could result in multiple bread basket failures and the chaos that that would entail. When the insects and birds are gone, Rachael Carson’s Silent Spring shall have come to pass.
So, as depressing as that is, we continue to have faith that there is still time to turn the ship around. So we persist.

Above all, we are for clean energy which in abundance is delivered free daily.
